Is This The End of Getter?

"I need to make myself happy. I can't do this shit man."

T

his is without a doubt the hardest article I’ve had to write since this platform started.

Not because of the content, nor the research, nothing like that. It’s because I’m fucking furious.

Over the last few days, news has broken regarding Getter publicly announcing his intentions to “give up” - cancelling his tour and potentially giving up music as a whole.

After what must have been some of the toughest months of his life, it seems that Getter has finally reached breaking point, refusing to go on.

On April 3rd he began expressing himself openly via Twitter, explaining that the hate he’s receiving just won’t stop and announcing that this ‘Visceral’ tour would be his last.

For anyone not up to date with the situation, Getter has been receiving an immense amount of hate since beginning his North American ‘Visceral’ tour.

The release of his trap album has been taken by many as some sort of personal insult, and many so-called ‘fans’ have decided to take their internet-fuelled toxicity into the real world.

As a result Getter has been constantly berated on social media, booed at his live shows, and even had shit thrown at him whilst performing live.

After months of ridicule and toxicity, Getter made a final social media post on April 3rd, simply captioned “you win.”

Usually I try and keep my personal feelings detached from these posts, but this time it’s a different story.

Regardless what some people seem to think, Getter isn’t some kind of jukebox who’ll pump out whatever song people tell him to - He’s a human being, one with goals, aspirations, ideas, and most importantly, fucking feelings.

He’s dealt with more negativity than I’ve seen an artist face in a long time, and why? Because he produced some trap instead of 14 VIP’s of Rip n Dip? Because there wasn’t enough bass? Because he had the balls to do something different?

If you can’t handle change, fuck off and listen to someone else’s music. Don’t start hating on someone just because they’re doing something you don’t vibe with.

The sad reality of this situation is that a handful of ignorant fans have potentially ruined what was bound to be a beautiful future for an incredibly innovative producer.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Nothing gives you creative control over an artist - If people refuse to let producers try new things, how the fuck can we ever expect music to evolve?

If these toxic fans wanna follow someone that’s not going to change, they should hit up Datsik, I doubt they’ll have to worry about him doing anything new for a while.

Getter is a talent we can’t afford to lose, and I pray we haven’t seen the last of him.

As always, I hope you enjoyed the read. Party safe, stay hydrated, and I’ll see you next time.
