The End of an Era; Perth's Oldest Club Night is Headed for Retirement

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.

t was less than six months ago when we put out an article praising Death Disco for celebrating it’s 12th birthday, and now here we are, putting the event in the spotlight once more. Only this time it’s much sadder.

A hub for live music and Saturday night staple for over a decade, Perth’s longest-standing club night has weathered it’s fair share of storms these last 12 years, but as sad as it may be, all good things must come to an end. Closing up shop at the end of 2019, Death Disco is on its way towards a very well earned retirement.

Why now? Why after all these years? All these hangovers? If it were up to the Death Disco crew then things might be different, but with its home of Capitol Nightclub closing down to make way for major renovations, the time has come for DD to pack its decks and leave the Masterchef kitchen.

Pioneered by the unbreakable brothers Anton & Andrei, Capitol’s Saturday nights have belonged to Death Disco since the club opened its doors almost 13 years ago. In that time they’ve thrown over 600 parties, consumed stupid amounts of Smirnoff and hosted hundreds of DJ’s from the likes of Slumberjack to Diplo, all in the name of giving the punters of Perth a good time.

But more important than anything else - they’ve made more memories than anyone could count.

With a new and improved Capitol destined to appear in March 2020, punters have until January 1st to make the most of what remains to this day one of Perth’s most popular nightclubs. On the plus side, that means you’ve got every Saturday from now until the New Year to hit Death Disco’s dance floor and kill a few more brain cells, so with exams all wrapped up, what excuse can you possibly have?

Lining up tonnes of talent for its last month of business, the promise of cheap entry, discount drinks and all manner of bass music is too enticing to pass up. So make sure you grab your mates and get down to show some love before the doors close up for good.

Leaving behind an unbeatable 12 year legacy, Death Disco will be sorely missed among Perth’s nightlife. So thank you for the hangovers, for the memories, for the long nights and the busted eardrums - here’s to the future.
